The waste storage cells are waterproof. They are equipped with drains to collect the rainwater that seeps through the layers of waste. This leachate is then treated.

The waste is inspected before being placed in the cells, and the biogas produced as it breaks down is converted into electricity rather than being released into the air, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Once filled, the cells are covered with earth to return them to their natural state and can then be replanted.
To limit truck traffic, the possibility of transporting waste by barge is currently being studied.
